"HAMLET"
Introduction to the Elizabethan Revenge Tragedy
Thomas Kyd established the revenge tragedy with his wildly popular Spanish Tragedy (1587), and Shakespeare perfected the genre with Hamlet, which is likely based on another revenge play by Kyd called the Ur-Hamlet. Sadly, no copy of Kyd's Ur-Hamlet exists today.
Most revenge tragedies share some basic elements: a play within a play, mad scenes, a vengeful ghost, one or several gory scenes, and, most importantly, a central character who has a serious grievance against a formidable opponent. This central character takes matters into his own hands and seeks revenge privately, after justice has failed him in the public arena. It should be noted that Hamlet is the only protagonist in any Elizabethan revenge play who can be considered a hero, aware of the moral implications involved in exacting his revenge.

- How faithful is the movie to the original play?
Kenneth Branagh 's Hamlet slightly different from that of the original play.
Ophelia's madness Branagrh has kept Shakespeare's work, which is a POST TRAUMATIC STRESS. Kate Winslat's portrayal is perfect for a women has gone mad because of a traumatic event the Death of her Father and breathalyze by her beloved.
Branagh also add some lines for a well set up for particular scene , while Hamlet was running after the ghost in the forest., is seem as thoughts running through his head.
Branagh chose to have Hamlet act extremely crazy and too overdone, Shakespeare wrote Hamlet's character as possibly being crazy, but the reader does not know the certain.
IS HE A LOST LITTLE PUPPY OR IS HE A VIOLENT LION?
In the Shakespearean drama , Hamlet was a young man who is weak because he had been betrayed, but in the movie did not show that he is hunting or weak, depicted as a ARROGANT character. in the drama he is depressed and hunting he could not really function.
Kenneth Branah made it seem like Hamlet was following his fathers order even through in the play he wasn't, he was actually a talking action. in movie version of Hamlets character took action it is not as tragic Hamlet's character in the play because by hamlet not talking action it shows how sensitive and hurt he was.
After hamlet killed Polonius in the movie Ophelia turned in to a crazy lady. now, on the other hand play does not directly show Ophelia has gone mad. Depressed , yes but not Mad.she said
" we must be patient but i cannot choose but weep"
Kenneth Branah uses very VISUAL and interesting FLASHBACK TECHNIQUE. In many scenes of the play such as the oping scene and when hamlet Recalls his fathers memory.
2. After watching the movie, have your perception about play, characters or situations changed?
As far I believe Ophelia is the most compassionate character in the play. It is innocent, yet punishable. She is a lover only woman with very honest, moral values. Almost all the characters in the play are insane Ophelia is madly in love with Hamlet, Hamlet is mad at his revenge, Claudius power and madness behind the queen, the most insane queen asshole who can do anything for no one can see everything. Is King Hamlet punches him in a way that takes revenge without worrying about his son's life. I have sympathy for the female characters in the play.
3. Do you feel ‘aesthetic delight’ while watching the movie? If yes, exactly when did it happen? If no, can you explain with reasons?
There were many seances that enjoyed the beauty of the scenery. For the newly created king, it is a pleasure for the queen and for the kingdom Claudius . According to Claudius, the kingdom and the queen are good, at any cost. The madness of the revenge mounted on the helmet's character is also attractive. The basic nature of human beings is to see others being annoyed and to enjoy them, me too. The insinuation of the incredible gestures by Hamlet in Insanity is also ridiculous
.
Usually it is that our moral feelings are connected to the protagonist of the play, but what if the protagonist is insane? It was a pleasure to see a hero who has never been seen. The injustice done to women is evident. as per my opinion the ghost king Hamlet must have been delighted to meet his son. When the helmet comes to his grave after Ophelia's death and expresses his deep love, I feel glad that the protagonist loved the heroine. even Gertrude drinks a poison i feel delight because , the not a single good work was done by her in the play. Even at the end of the movie, when revenge takes place, and especially for such a long movie ends , it was such a pleasure.
4. Do you feel ‘catharsis’ while or after watching movie? If yes, exactly when did it happen? If no, can you explain with reasons?
The mood of the play is of great importance. Usually we want to not go wrong with the protagonist. Live free from pain, can fight. But the protagonist, in all aspects of the human mind, is extremely confused. TO BE OR NOT TO BE this causes confusion it is catharsis. Catharsis is born with a protagonist, the death of his father, the second marriage of his mother, the murderer of his father is his own uncle , his revenge, his separation from his girlfriend Ophelia.
all these problems with one person. The lengths used to avenge the death of the father and the moral values of the hemorrhoids to lie. A compassionate educated man can not kill anyone This is catharsis. Hamlet's attitude toward Ophelia is still part of Hamlet's madness. The death of all in the end of the play and Horatio should survive for becomes the evident of hamlet's life, is also catharsis.

5 .Does screening of movie help you in better understanding of the play?
Yes, the only thing that can be seen and remembered more easily than the listener is heard. What is written in the book is confined to the brain only, if we want better understanding of any particular work we must connect it with our heart too. it Can be remembered for a long time.
6. Was there any particular scene or moment in the movie that you will cherish lifetime?
I will never forget all these scenes, the ghost of Hamlet's father, the very inferiority of his behavior with Ophelia in revenge for Hamlet's father's death. when Hamlet attending the wedding uncle's and mother's wedding and a flow of physic thoughts comes in his mind, Hamlet feels that he was alone to fight against circumstances . All these scenes appeal to me .
7. If you are director, what changes would you like to make in the remaking of movie on Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’?
Hamlet is a modern era movie. In fact, the director has presented the basic questions and issues of the human mind. People are really suffering from such a problem. Here is a very good description of the human physic nature. If I'm Director...,
- I create the character of Polonius more than one . Which shows Ophelia the right way. The blind love presented by Ophelia as a sensual woman is the way to destruction.
- proclaims the queen of Gertrude capable .....
- Whatever Hamlet does as a hero is valid. It behaves according to the values of human nature.
- Claudius as a king is exactly the same. Wish to get the theory of DARWIN , SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST. Which is powerful is become king . It has the power of clever swelling.
- I criticize the King Hamlet as king is to persuade his son to retaliate. he is not a good father, then where does the king ...?
- the character of Horatio would not have been in my play because friendship teaches morality ....
- Had Hamlet trusted the Doctrine of karma, the play would have ended very peacefully. Could have saved the lives of many.
- Hamlet would never become the king of Denmark, because even though mature, if it takes too long time to make a decision, then the system( of kingdom) does not work properly in the undercontrol of him.
8. In the beginning of the movie, camera rolls over the statue of King Hamlet out side the Elsinore castle. The movie ends with the similar sequence wherein the statue of the King Hamlet is hammered down to the dust. What sort of symbolism do you read in this?
"The Breaking of The Glass is Considered Auspicious in India ... "
What should the statue of King Hamlet in Denmark suggest in this case .....
- The collapse of the idol means liberation ... When the work is done .....(revenge of king hamlet)
- the demolition of the idol is a symbol of Ruin, overthrown, Destroyed.
- The demolition of an idol is the end of an invalid Obduracy....
- The demolition of an idol is the end of power , Empire.....
- The demolition of an idol ends the Roman Catholic Empire in the end of 15th century and beginning of 16th century..
- The demolition of an idol gives evidence of the belief in ghosts, dreams. ....
- he breaking of the idol King Hamlet, after the revenge being taken and the murderer killed, falls (sleeps) happily.
- The fall of statue is signs of satisfaction and happiness as his murderer is avenged. The pious duty of revenge being completed, his roaming soul finds its heaven.
The breakdown of idols from all forms of devil's liberation, the end of power, it seems to me that the rising Protestant people of the 15th to 16th century show the decline of the religion of the Catholic.
9. While studying the play through movie, which approach do you find more applicable to the play? Why? Give reasons with illustrations
As per my thinking psychological approach seems more appropriate,
- Hamlet Delay in the comprehending and psychoanalytic motives and morals prevents him .
- Hamlet delays because he can't punish Claudius for doing what he himself wishes to do as a child and unconsciously, he punishes himself also his beloved Ofelia.
- As per Freud observation. hamlet has every time hatred to women their are responsible for everything.
- We all are thinning that is hamlet really becomes crazy? scholars compare hamlet to the EARL OF ESSEX have been who was executed for attempting to start rebellion against QUEEN ELIZABETH. Hamlet and earl of Essex have been anylized for its Elizabethan ideas and madness. "Some theories are much more reasonable for Hamlet's character"
Existentialism:philosophical theory which emphasis the existence of the individual person is a free and responsible agent determining their own development throughout act of free will.
Relativism:Doctrine that knowledge, truth, morality exist in relation to culture. Society or historical context, and are not absolute.Skepticism:the theory that certain knowledge is impossible
10.Which of the above mentioned approaches (in Pre-viewing task) appeals you more than other? Why? Give reasons
In the play, formalist approach is appeals me more than any other approach. There is vast difference between "seeming" and "being" in all the major characters like Hamlet," Our eyes may be bluff some times, but not our experience" Claudius and Ophelia " lord we know what we are , but we know not what we may be"
Hamlet: " One day may smile and smile to be a villain"All are pretend as they are right and good but all has some kind of devilish intention. There is a question of " know ability" of characters in play.

I think that here is textual approach is more appropriate than the any other approaches in the pre- view task because one said that the text is best source of own study and text is give the knowledge about the character, writer, society and text is best source is evaluate the work. So I am said that textual approach is more appropriate than other approaches.
