Mary Shelley's Frankenstein v/s Kenneth Branagh's movie Frankenstein:

             ''Mary Shelley's Frankenstein v/ s Kenneth Branagh's movie
                 Frankenstein''

Hello readers this is my new task and thinking activity on Mary shelley's novel The Frankenstein, this particular movie based on some scientific as well as the Gothic element, this task is given by our faculty Hinamam Zala , this task is also about reviews on Kenneth brehnag movie Frankenstein which is shown by mam and in this blog I give my views on particular work.

1)What is gothic scientific fiction?

Gothic novels were a popular genre during the late 1700s and early 1800s. Think of them as a combination of mystery and horror all rolled into one. Most Gothic novels take place in creepy settings like dark castles, damp dungeons, and dusty passageways. When writing her novel, Shelley employed these setting elements, adding an extra layer of mystery for her largely British audience. Frankenstein's laboratory is located in Central Europe, a place most of her readers had not visited.

2)What is a frame narrative?

Frame story, also called frame tale, overall unifying story within which one or more tales are related.
In the single story, the opening and closing constitutes a frame. In the cyclical frame story—that is, a story in which several tales are related—some frames are externally imposed and only loosely bind the diversified stories.

3)Do you have confusion about the title of the novel?

Yes, I get some confusion in the title of novel, this particular novel written by Mary Shelley. Frankenstein is a masterpiece of Gothic and scientific element. But my concern is about the conflict between the title of novel .as we all know that the victor Frankenstein is a scientist and he tried to make a human and his challenges the human manufacturing.
He got success in himmat a man but his creation is seems to be e a very bad and ugly looking just because of lots of stitches and his body shape. Monster plays a vital role in play as well as Victor Frankenstein also plays a vital role so so I get bit of confusion that a monster his to link with his own identity, Frankenstein creator of monster must give him name and the world novel is knows by  monsters name.

4)What is tabula rasa?

Definition of tabula rasa
1: the mind in its hypothetical primary blank or empty state before receiving outside impressions

5)What is the significance of the subtitle "The Modern Prometheus"?

The subtitle of Shelley’s work, “The Modern Prometheus,” surely implies the content of the novel, bringing our minds the ancient Promethean myths. An analysis on the plot and the main characters in the stories, Prometheus and Dr. Frankenstein, may lead us to the answer why Mary Shelley subtitled her book Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus.

6)How is the beginning and the end of the movie?

In the very beginning of the movie we can various things of victor Frankenstein's Life, such as his Study and his experiment. At the very end of the story we can justify that Victor Frankenstein learn so many things as his own story...as per my views the of victor Frankenstein present that the completeness of story... everything problematic things are ended now...
The realization of monster presents that he surrendered by circumstances and society. He realized that he done so many wrong things and just want to justify himself so he committed death with his creator victor Frankenstein.

7)Do you feel the effect of horror in the movie?

Yes, as we all know that Victor Frankenstein made a creature, based on some scientific experiment, who
Looks like the human beings. As such looking of creature is like a monster just because of his looks and his tremendous power and strength so we can consider as whenever The monster comes in a display in a frame we get some kind of unexpectable look which is ugly the most, is dark voice his green eyes and the places where you would like to stay, also fill effect of horror whenever monster used to kill someone generally the family members of victor Frankenstein. When we talk to particular scene of movie I feel scared when it was a night scene and monster came to meet Victor Frankenstein for meeting it was a scene of a dark night so I feel somewhere a little bit of horror elements.

8)Do you think the director has used appropriate symbols in the movie?

Here very much symbols are used by director to switching something and to signify something where is special at particular situation for example , here I'm  give you a very brief photographs of symbols which is used by director in this particular movie signify something very superior.

Here  the fire symbolise ''passion''

The necklace symbolise "temporary beauty"

Knowledge is also consider as the most important symbol in this particular movie, that lust for knowledge leads victor Frankenstein towards death.

Other one is cross it not sustain the idea of religion but it sustain the idea of love and purity in this movie.
The man's lust is more one symbol in it that a man can't survive without companion. See the image of the monster who piping From window and looking his companion. So this are the some symbols which makes movie very significant.

9)What do you think about the character of the monster in the movie?

The character of monster created by Victor Frankenstein with use of scientific experiments and the basically look of monster is a very scary and horror just because of lots of stitches and body structure.this is the concerned office outer body it means external body but when we talked about the internal quality of monster we come to know that is the one who processing a very humanitarian quality in his nature. When we see from the very beginning of the novel or movie e The monster is looks like a green and huge but is like up innocent child of Frankenstein you don't know the language you don't know how to live how to behave.

this particular movie and Mary shelley's novel Frankenstein emphasis humanitarian quality in.  monsters character. The way he learning with reading of John milton's paradise lost learning language the way he protect de laiziz family we can consider monster as a pure soul and good creature. Just because of rejection of  Victor Frankenstein monster come to be monster. Gifts that whatever is happening with me is just because of Victor Frankenstein, so he decided that I will take revenge.

so this way I tried to out some arguments in favour of monsters character character.

10) Does the movie help you to understand narrative structure of the novel?

Yes, of course this particular movie helps a lot to understand the very basic idea of novel and it will help to image in particular scene while reading a novel we can imagine very well we can connect indoors very well from novel to movie . In addition I would like to say that this movie is a very faithful withdrawal so we do not get any comparisons and cross conflicts between novel and movie.

After watching this movie live connect with novel more, imagine any scene or character more lively and government Deuce x-ray image of movie e in the novel we can interpret more with the help of movie some movie dialogues we can take as a example and is a quotation during writing.

11)What do you think about the creation of lady monster in the novel and Elizabeth's look of a monster in the movie?

As the movie present the look of Elizabeth is much more faithful with novels perception here we can clearly
See see thegood interpretation of novel in to movie.

12)Think about Victor's acceptance of Elizabeth and rejection of the monster?

Victor Frankenstein as creation of a monster is a trial and we can say that it is an experiment to changing human manufacturing. we can add one more thing in that particular question that Victor Frankenstein challenge is professor about human manufacturing so in that perception Victor Frankenstein eagerly wants to make a human instead of being awakening about demonstrate results
Of this experiment. So he made a very e tremendous powerful human but his looks is too weird and if we can an acceptable in our social life. After getting this kind of failure in his experiment and having such a ugly looking man, I get completely disappointment and left the monster.

But when we see the creation of lady Elizabeth in a same personification of again ugly looking creature. But here we see that he truly loves her and he ready to get her back in any condition. Unlock the prime condition of everyone Victor Frankenstein also follow this path and he made his wife.

On this particular event we can see that after knowing the process of human manufacturing Victor Frankenstein made monster and lady monster as per is on perception,as per his need.

13)Do you think the director is faithful to the novel?

Kenneth Branagh took a stab at a faithful retelling of Frankensteinwith his 1994 filmMary Shelley's Frankenstein. The movie does a slightly better job articulating the nuances of the Creature than most other adaptations, but still falls short of the mark. The film also changes the ending in a particularly jarring way, not only bringing the Creature's bride to life, but giving her Elizabeth's head and memories.

                            Thank you 😊

Matthew Arnold view on good poetry and criticism

"Matthew Arnold characteristic of good poetry and criticism"

Hello readers, this is my new to block task on literary criticism, this particular task given by professor Dilip Barad Sir click here to see the worksheet of him about Matthew Arnold view on good poetry and criticism.

 Leslie Stephen described Arnold as
“one of the poets who are made, who are not born”

G. W. E. Russell in Portraits of the Seventies,
is
"A man of the world entirely free from worldliness and a man of
letters without the faintest trace of pedantry"

Matthew Arnold (24 December 1822 – 15 April 1888) was a British
poet and cultural critic who worked as an inspector of schools. He was
the son of Thomas Arnold, the famed headmaster of Rugby School,
and brother to both Tom Arnold, literary professor, and William
Delafield Arnold, novelist and colonial administrator. Matthew Arnold
has been characterized as a sage writer, a type of writer who chastises
and instructs the reader on contemporary social issues.(Wikipedia)

Arnold is sometimes called as  the third great Victorian poet,
 Arnold was keenly
aware of his place in poetry. He compares himself with eminent poets and he make an argument that he was started new Reflection of literature.

''My poems represent, on the whole, the main movement of mind of the last quarter of a century, and thus they will probably have their day as
people become conscious to themselves of what that movement of mind is, and interested in the literary productions which reflect it. It might
be fairly urged that I have less poetical sentiment than Tennyson and less intellectual vigor and abundance than Browning; yet because I have
perhaps more of a fusion of the two than either of them, and have more regularly applied that fusion to the main line of modern development, I
am likely enough to have my turn as they have had theirs."

Whenever we glanced the very poetic views of Matthew Arnold in his
"The study of Poetry.” Arnold is fundamentally concerned with poetry’s “high destiny;” he  firmly believes that ....

“mankind will discover that we have to turn to poetry to interpret life for us, to console us, to sustain us”

Arnold himself also concern with
“the austerity of poetry”,
when we see the outstanding Life of Arnold, speaks memorably of this self-disputing or self-cancelling quality in the Arnoldian voice:

“Habitually, his poems seemed to speak against themselves, to question their own right to have been written”.

Arnold believes that the
" Art of poetry is capable of high destinies"

It is the art in which the ''idea itself is the fact'' He says that we should understand the worth of poetry as it is poetry that shows us a
"Mirror of life"

The mood of Arnold’s poetry tends to be of plaintive reflection, and he is restrained in expressing emotion. He felt
that poetry should be the 'criticism of life' and express a philosophy. hare is the three major parameters to judge good poetry.

Historical estimate: Historic estimate raises poetry to a high pedestal and thus hinders one from noticing its weaknesses. It is the historic estimate that leads to the creation of classics and raises the poet to a nearly God like standard.

Real estimate:Arnold says that if a poet is truly a classic his poetry will give the reader real pleasure and enable him to compare and contrast other poetry which are not of the same high standard. This according to Arnold is the real estimate of poetry.

For Arnold poetry is not meant to delight,
it is meant to provide food to soul.

Personal estimate: Personal estimate poetry should be far from personal and individual vision it must be based on truth and scientific evidence instead of being biased and emotional on particular subject.

“As a criticism of life under the condition
fixed for such a criticism by the laws of poetic
truth and poetic beauty.”

For Arnold ‘criticism of life’ means the noble and profound
application of ideas to life and the laws of poetic truth and poetic beauty as truth and
seriousness to substance and matter, and felicity and perfection of diction and manner.
Arnold believes that poetry does not present life as it is.

“The language of poetry and emotion,
approximate language, thrown out, as it were”.

He says that  all poets possess a high poetic quality. He says that a critic need not labour in vain trying to explain the greatness of poetry. Poet has to be initially a great and endowed with high poetic quality.

Arnold says that the high quality of poetry lies in its matter and its manner as well as the method and manner in a parallel way in poetry. Here Milton quoted :

"And courage never to submit or yield,
And what is else not to be overcome?"

We find that these lines no doubt have ethical value, and strength, but in regard to the ‘style
and manner’.

All literature is the application of ideas to life and to say that poetry is the application of ideas to life, under the condition fixed for poetry, is simply a vain repetition.

The fact is that Arnold believes that the ideas and sentiments to have any permanent value must be based on actual life.

However, he argues that we should not live in the
belief that we shall one day inherit eternal bliss. If we are not happy on earth, we should moderate our desires rather
than live in dreams of something that may never be attained. This philosophy is clearly expressed in such poems as
"Dover Beach" and in these lines from "Stanzas from the Grande Chartreuse":

"Wandering between two worlds, one dead
The other powerless to be born,
With nowhere yet to rest my head
Like these, on earth I wait forlorn."

Thus for Arnold poetry has a great role to play. In fact he makes the moral purpose of poetry
as the integral function. He says,

“A poetry of revolt against moral ideas is a poetry of revolt-
against life; a poetry of indifference towards moral ideas in a poetry of indifference towards
life”.

Arnold valued natural scenery for its peace and permanence satisfaction and rationality towards life.

His own abstract conception of poetry remained classical and forbiddingly elevated, and he revered the old masters, pre-eminently Homer, for their cultivation of “the Grand Style”, something much more than merely a way of writing, rather a whole authoritative purchase on experience, “that elevation of character, that noble way of thinking and behaving, which is an eminent gift of nature”.

"Views on criticism"

"Mathew Arnold is an important
critic of English Literature.
Before him, English criticism was
in fog"

Given Arnold’s view that criticism should extend notonly to literature but also to life, some of his cultural theory also comes across in the text.

''Disinterested endeavor to learn
and propagate the best that is known
 and thought in the world.”

On  disinterestedness as the rule for criticism:The rule may be summed up in one word—disinterestedness ,which is to be a free play of mind on all subjects which it touches,[Criticism’s] business is ... simply to know the best that is known and thought in the world, and by in its turn making this known, to create a current of true and fresh ideas.

"Here is some views of criticism given by Matthew Arnold"

1) Criticism has the power to make the best ideas prevail. It is the business of criticism to know the best that is known and thought in the world and in its turn making this known to create a current of true and fresh ideas. It creates stir and growth which makes creation possible. That is why great creative epochs are preceded by great epochs of criticism. The freshness of idea with critical appreciation and critical approach is a part of Criticism it gives new direction and new version to judge  any literary work.

2) In order to be successful, criticism must exercise curiosity, which is a desire to know the best, and which should not be taken as a term of disparagement. Curiosity the prime element of Criticism curiosity leads critic towards new direction of to give new frame of literary work.

3) Criticism is  must also be disinterested. It must keep aloof from the ‘practical view of things’. The critic must try to view an object with detachment to see it ‘as it really is’, without being stifled by practical/political considerations. Arnold is of the view that a critic’s judgment should never be swayed by the prejudices of the Barbarian, the Populace and the Philistines.

4) Judging is often spoken as the critic’s main business, but such judging has to be in a clear and fair mind, along with knowledge. Knowledge therefore should be the critic’s concern. So, in his search for the best that is known and thought in the world, the critic has to study literature's other than his own.

5)   False standards of judgment-personal and historical must be avoided. Particularly any criticism a critic should be e free from biased and personal emotions, he must be very serious and his idea of judging any literary work must be  followed by the universal temperament, he must be the neutral person instead of being emotional and try to examined and judge particular work with our totality with neutralizes way.

So here are some characteristics of good poetry as well as I tried to explain the some more characteristic of Criticism. A true definition of good poerty and criticism is must be followed by a very  objective state of mind and heart then it will be a fruitful criticism .

Thank you 😊

The touch stone method by Arnold

Hello readers ,this is my additional blog in Matthew Arnold's view on good poetry and criticism . This task is given by Dr Dilip Bharat sir HOD of English department, the purpose of this task to develop and increase self reliance as well as to develop analytical power in particular work. Touchstone method is a part of Criticism and it will help to get rid the readers and also give explanation, how to differentiate between good literature and poor literature so here in this particular blog I tried to to analyse and differentiate to Hindi poems,  following the two fallacies of Touchstone method.

Arnold says,
"The strongest part of our religion
 today is its unconscious poetry".

Generally the Touchstone method is a method where critics or a person should we differentiate between good or poor literature it would helps to get rid the readers from to fallacies.

Historical fallacy: Here poets to reports historical poems would think that they are famous.

Personal fallacy: Here where poet should conduct his or her criticism as per is our feelings and emotional state of mind and heart.

The Right Method or the Touchstone Method: In order to guide the critic in his performance of his task, Arnold prescribes his well known ‘Touchstone method’ generally it means basic study of poetry. He says that a real estimate can be attained by learning to feel and enjoy the best work of a real classic and appreciate the wide difference between it and other lesser works. He further adds that high qualities lie both in the matter and substance, and in the manner and style of poetry. In this particular method the critic should compare the two similar kind of poetry and try to maintain the probability of theme and help to recognize the most supreme and high quality poetry out of both.
The Matter and substance will possess ‘truth and seriousness’, truth and serious is a prime condition of a qualitative poem when we using this method in a particular poem we should aware about the truthfulness insidiousness of poetic elements and this character is

‘inseparable from the superiority of diction and movement’

in style and manner. Arnold then suggest that it would do critics good if they always have in their minds lines and expressions of the great masters and apply them as touchstone to other poetry. This will help critics detect the presence or absence of high poetic quality, and also the degree of this quality.

He says that the poems need not resemble or possess any similarity to the touchstones. Once the critic has judged the touchstones in his mind in order to detect the possession of high poetic quality he will have the tact of finding it in other poetry that he compares to the touchstones.

Here I am going to compare two Hindi poem with the help of Touchstone method.

He is the second one,

'आदमी भी क्या अनोखा जीव होता है!'

चांद और कवि

रात यों कहने लगा मुझसे गगन का चांद,
आदमी भी क्या अनोखा जीव होता है!
उलझनें अपनी बनाकर आप ही फंसता,
और फिर बेचैन हो जगता, न सोता है.

जानता है तू कि मैं कितना पुराना हूं ?
मैं चुका हूं देख मनु को जनमते-मरते;
और लाखों बार तुझ-से पागलों को भी
चांदनी में बैठ स्वप्नों पर सही करते.

आदमी का स्वप्न ? है वह बुलबुला जल का;
आज उठता और कल फिर फूट जाता है ;

As per my thinking,While using Touchstone method we must aware about the historical estimate as well as the personal estimate with the basis of them we can differentiate both parallel theme. But here we can see that the theme object and situation are same but the contrasting theme is that in a first poem human criticize moon bi where is sufficient words on the other hand second poem formally criticize human being with his very modern style of writing. Let's differentiate this both poem with two fallacy.

Historical fallacy: The first poem written by very eminent poem writer सुमित्रानंदन पंत . In this particular poem writer talks about that moon is in a leap of art , we consider moon as a very old and lustful object in a same manner you also denoting moon as with dark Shadow, ultimately writer proves superior rati of Earth and decrements of nature , art is delightful and poor and old moon cannot able to endowed this kind of delight and beauty.

The second poem which is written by

रामधारी सिंह ‘दिनकर, formally promotes and committed that a moon as a part of nature directly criticize human beings, here moon emphasis that line that how old I am, I am the one who be  the part of dreams of humans. We consider that dream also has a great weapon. In this particular poem moon promoting his own self that existence of him is from so many fast decades, he seen everything the beginning of human beings the dreams of human beings as well as you also say that he seen so many successful people who made their dreams success.  in addition recognize that human are very reckless and an acceptable animal. swim this particular poem we can see the greatness of moon with a some historical mythical characters name many through this poem we can see that and compare that both the things and the contrast differentiation between two poets and their visions.

Personal fallacy: so we see the both poems we can conclude that the ancient writers are formerly criticize moon as per their own personal emotions and feeling they follow their own emotions but in today's modern times we can see that a very realistic and truthful analysis and vision of poets. In a first poem directly poet criticize moon as a dark and  consider it with dark  Shadow, darkness etc, but in today's poem we can clearly differentiate the difference that poet write the poem not as per his own belief and own emotion but he can convey universal thought of truth that the moon is old and his existence is from long past years so moon can seen so many things in short the beginning of human beings as well a moon has a very profound statement that dreams has his own weapon and moon and nature is the best part of humans dream.

So I tried to to differentiate both poem with the use of Touchstone method and this is my own perspective about two poems, in a very brief at right to give a short analysis of Touchstone method as well as to brief example of poems with two fallacies.

Thank you 😊

"WORKSHOP ON
 QUALITY AND AUTHENTICITY OF
WEB RESOURCES"

Hello readers, this is very special blog  , which is now very coupled with today's world, as we all know that nowadays the world is a Handy object for everyone, how to get information is not much bigger question , Google and internet services provides every information about every subject and the very people using internet access in their research papers and study materials, it is about ethical use of technology but people using this kind of facilities in unethical too.

“The world is being re-shaped by the convergence of social, mobile, cloud, big data, community and other powerful forces. The combination of these technologies unlocks an incredible opportunity to connect everything together in a new way and it’s dramatically transforming the way we live and work.”
-Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce

On the day of 19th November, students of English department at Maharaja krishnakumarsinhji University, Bhavnagar had a very fruitful discussion and session (Workshop) on authoritative qualified reliable and qualitative materials which we generally use for study purpose. Here our head of department @Dilip Barad Sir kindly explain the whole process of getting authentic qualitative resources from very reliable sites, he also checks our plagiarism in exam assignments.

Here we gain knowledge about which material or data helps us for making good preparation as well as which information data and materials are much more authentic for studies. We personally try to justify and evaluating some web sites and web sources with the help of Turnitin.

What is Turnitin?

"A service to determine the originality of texts based on comparisons with their internal database and net-wide searches."

Help your students develop key referencing and writing skills with our free Academic Research & Writing Principles checklist.

What is the plagiarism?

Many students simply do not know what plagiarism is. Their awareness, if any, often derives from urban legends and myths. Some of these myths include:

"If you change an author's words into your own words, you don't have to cite it."
Many other students know what plagiarism is, but don't consider it wrong. Some have a personal belief that "information wants to be free," and that copying from others is merely an acceptable practice of recycling.

This below picture presenting some various kind of copying things with denoting marks, also makes clear the  seriousness of plagiarism.

Copying a paper sometimes looks like a shortcut through an assignment, but the way how  turnitin helps student to find copying things and it also emphasis on self reliance, Writing a research paper helps to develop the skills of researching (hunting for something in the information universe), problem solving (the principal work of most people), critical thinking (a lifelong skill if ever there was one), writing (language is the most powerful weapon on earth), perseverance, and commitment. It follows that the more students learn and develop their skills, the more effective they will be in their future lives. Emphasize the process and the benefits, not just the product.

Students are faced with too many choices, so they put off low priorities. as we per turnitin's report
Many students have poor time management and planning skills.  Some students are just procrastinators, while others do not understand the hours required to develop a good research paper as well as in study assignments. Thus, they are most tempted to copy a paper when time is short and they have not yet started the assignment. so if we get a proper material site authentic one so we can start up it too early , can be with topic, make draft, bibliography. This strategy will also help you discover when a student is on a downward spiral, having taken on too broad a topic or too narrow an approach.

So here i am going to present our practical work during workshop, this are the main four criteria where students should have to find their study sites, which are used by them for as regular reading, we have to evaluate this sites as per own perceptions and as per the manner of turnitin's  criteria.

Here I am sharing the part of a practical test on searching Google informative sites, this is the evaluating rubric .

So show your is the format of rubric and some more examples of site evolution.
